Game Hermeneutics

Friday, March 4, 2005

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Pacific Ties website has officially launched. Unfortunately, the UCLA Bruinwalk bureaucracy forces us to conform to its templates, which explains the unfriendly interface. Content is a bit on the flaky side at this point, but hopefully it'll be able to grow next quarter.

For those of you worrying that GH has turned into an Asian American advocacy site, don't worry. The game reviews will be back. In fact, I'm planning on reviewing Devil May Cry 3 and Xenosaga Ep. II soon. Whatever I write for Pac Ties, I'll also mirror a copy on GH.

In fact, our newest issue should be on newsstands TODAY. Technically, we should have gone to press two weeks ago but numerous setbacks plagued the staff. Contrary to stereotypes, Asian people can get lazy!

Director/Producer Tiara Delgado premiered her new documentary "Compassion and Controversy" earlier tonight. I went with a couple of Pac Ties editors to check it out.

The film basically detailed the current trend in America of adopting Asian babies, particularly Cambodians. The problem lies in the fact that not all the children are orphans. Sadly, a lot of shady people coerce pregnant women to sell their children. The result is an intricate network of baby trafficking. Some of these babies are sold to companies that ship them to America. Others are forced into prostitution. Money is scarce in Cambodia and the demand for children in America is high. Most of these children die along the journey. In 2001, the U.S. officially stopped all adoptions from Cambodia in an effort to stop this corruption. But has it hurt or helped the cause?

Prach Ly also came to rap in Cambodian. I had no idea what he said, but it sounded cool.

I uploaded new (better) screenshots for the Parasite Eve and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night reviews.

I've updated the gallery with a few new items. First off is a very short story called The War on Tara. I originally wanted this comic to be much longer. However, like so many other projects, I became too busy and shelved it. What you see is the original "intro" to the story. Well, after some minor editing, it's not the ENTIRE story. Enough said.

I also uploaded the new PacTies cover. Nothing too special. Lynne messaged me last night at 11pm and told me to throw something together. So there you go.
